The Home Builders Association of West Florida's Green Building Council is a volunteer driven council and is affiliated with the Florida Home Builders Association and the National Association of Home Builders.  As defined by the HBAWF Green Building Council the definition of "Green" means and refers to education, products, services or practices which promote an increase of energy efficiency, sustainability, conservation and recycling. Owners and employees of current HBA of West Florida member companies are eligible to apply for membership to the Green Building Council. 

Green Building Council Objectives:

  • to associate firms and individuals engaged wholly or in part in activities relating to the business of Green Building, or any other form of home improvement;
  • to raise the level and standards of Green building in the Community;
  • to provide services and benefits to members of the Council that will assist them in the performance of their duties;
  • to provide a forum for the free exchange of information between members of the Council;
  • to promote a better public image of the home building industry;
  • to upgrade and ensure quality workmanship and professional ethics among the members of the home building industry.

The committees within the HBAWF Green Building Council are deemed by the membership to be necessary for efficient functioning of the Council and the achievement of the Council's objectives and goals.

 Dr. Joseph Lstiburek from Building Science Corporation (BSC) will be providing a seminar on Wednesday, February 8th from 12:00pm to 5:00pm at UWF’s Conference Center. He will be sharing with us his extensive knowledge in the complexity of today's building technology. Join us as we learn more about building science and the interaction between the various materials, products and systems used in building construction, the occupants of these buildings, and the environments in which they are located. BSC uses its in-depth understanding of building science to provide leadership and services in the areas of building performance and durability.

Dr. Joseph Lstiburek, Ph.D., P.Eng., ASHRAE Fellow , is a principle of Building Science Corporation. He is a renowned speaker and has written numerous publications on building failures and is internationally recognized for his expertise on moisture related building problems and indoor air quality. Topics will include Energy Efficiency for new construction and retrofits in hot humid climates including Indoor Air Quality, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning and ventilation do’s and don’ts for super insulated homes, advanced framing techniques, sealed attics and more.
